The Torah says: "כִּי יִמָּצֵא חָלָל" – “When a corpse will be found”. Not if—but when. Is the Torah guaranteeing that murder will always stalk humanity? What does this reveal about the darkest impulses of the human heart? It continues: "בָּאֲדָמָה אֲשֶׁר ה' אֱלֹקֶיךָ נֹתֵן לְךָ לְרִשְׁתָּהּ" – in the Land that Hashem gave you to inherit. But wait—didn’t we learn that Eretz Yisrael is conditional on keeping the Torah? Is it a divine gift or a fragile contract? Why does the Torah switch language here? What is it concealing?
