The Secret of The Geulah Why Was the Redemption Rushed? Chazal teach that the souls of Israel descended into the iron furnace of Egypt to be purified from the spiritual contamination of four earlier generations—Enosh, the Flood, the Dispersion, and Sodom. If that purification had already been completed, then justice itself would demand their immediate redemption. But if it had not yet been completed, what purpose was there in taking them out? They would still be bound by that ancient contamination and unfit to be called “Yisrael,” let alone to receive the Torah, the ultimate instrument of refinement. This raises a fundamental question: is redemption dependent on spiritual repair, or on something else entirely? Why Does Moshe Speak to Israel at All? The Pasuk defines Moshe’s mission clearly: “Come, and I will send you to Pharaoh.” Why, then, does Moshe say, “Behold, I come to the Children of Israel”? Who asked him to address them—and perhaps Hashem did not even want him to? Even more puzzling: why does Moshe anticipate that Bnei Yisrael will ask for Hashem’s Name? They already received a tradition from the Avos, who knew Him as "Keil Shakkai". If so, why is Hashem’s response framed as “Hashem, the G-d of your fathers,” rather than beginning with the clear sign of redemption they were taught—"Pakod Yifkod"? The Mystery of “Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh” Moshe famously resists going with the Name “Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh.” But this itself is astonishing. The doubled expression was already known from Yaakov and Yosef as the language of redemption. More than that, “Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh” is a holy Name that effects yeshuos; every redemption flows through it. Why, then, does Moshe argue that it should not be said to Israel? And why does Hashem agree with him, limiting the message and withholding the fuller Name? In this shiur, we uncover the deeper story behind these questions—drawing on the Zohar and the teachings of the Ari HaKadosh—to reveal what truly triggers redemption, why Egypt had to end when it did, and how the Name of “Ehyeh” reshapes our understanding of exile and Geulah.
