פרשת בשלח - סוד האמונה

The Secret Power of Emunah Yetzi’as Mitzrayim is the greatest moment of joy in our history — the birth of Klal Yisrael, the foundation of all future geulos. And yet, the Torah opens the Parasha with a startling word: “וַיְהִי בְּשַׁלַּח פַּרְעֹה”. Chazal teach us that every “וַיְהִי” is a lashon of tza’ar. Pain? Sorrow? At the very moment when Hashem breaks the iron furnace and leads His people to freedom? Even more puzzling, the Torah repeats this word at the climax of the redemption itself. Where is the hidden pain within the greatest miracle of all? The wording of the Pasuk deepens the mystery. “בְּשַׁלַּח פַּרְעֹה” — did Pharaoh send Klal Yisrael out? Was it not Hashem Himself who took them out ביד חזקה ובזרוע נטויה? And the Pasuk seems incomplete: it begins with Pharaoh’s sending, yet immediately shifts to “וְלֹא נָחָם אֱלֹהִים”, without explaining what Pharaoh’s role truly was. Why does the Torah insist on framing the Geulah through Pharaoh at all — and what crucial message lies hidden in this strange structure? Then the Torah tells us that Hashem deliberately avoided taking Klal Yisrael on the shortest route, דרך ארץ פלשתים, out of concern for war. But how can this be understood? Egypt — the superpower that ruled the world — lay shattered, its armies drowned in the sea. The Shirah testifies that all the nations trembled, and that specifically the Pelishtim were seized with fear. Who would dare challenge Klal Yisrael now? And if Moshe Rabbeinu could later stand against Amalek, why was this route considered too dangerous? Most perplexing of all is the Torah’s explanation: “פֶּן יִנָּחֵם הָעָם.” Not fear — but regret. Could it be that after generations of brutal slavery, after witnessing open miracles and tasting freedom, Klal Yisrael might rethink their redemption? Might they actually consider returning to Mitzrayim? And after Krias Yam Suf, when Egypt no longer existed — where would they even return? What does this reveal about the inner world of Klal Yisrael at the moment of geulah, and about the profound, unseen challenge that accompanies the journey from slavery to becoming Hashem’s nation? This shiur will uncover the hidden root of Geulah — what empowered the redemption from Mitzrayim, and what continues to hold the key to the ultimate Geulah — through the lens of the Zohar and the Ari HaKadosh.
