פרשת תרומה - סוד התרומה

At first glance, the opening of Parashas Terumah is perplexing. The Torah commands, “וְיִקְחוּ לִי תְּרוּמָה,” yet it conceals the reasons for the giving. Only later, in Parashas Ki Sisa, are the purposes of the תרומות revealed—לכפר על הנפש, to create a counting of Klal Yisrael, and to establish the אדנים. Why here does the Torah remain silent? Is the תרומה of the Mishkan fundamentally different from all other gifts, so much so that HaKadosh Baruch Hu withholds the רקשדםמ in order to multiply the זכות of giving purely לשמה? An even deeper question emerges from the very language of the Pasuk. The Mishkan is built for the benefit of Klal Yisrael—so that the שכינה will dwell among them and the Torah will emerge from its midst. If so, why does the Torah say “וְיִקְחוּ לִי”—for Me? Should it not say “לָהֶם”? Rashi answers “לִי – לִשְׁמִי,” yet every mitzvah must be done לשם שמים. What is unique about the building of the Mishkan that the Torah must emphasize this point more than any other mitzvah? Furthermore, the very structure of the command is striking. Unlike the obligation to build a בית הכנסת, which the Rambam rules the community may even compel one another to fulfill, the תרומה for the Mishkan is presented as voluntary—“מֵאֵת כׇּל אִישׁ אֲשֶׁר יִדְּבֶנּוּ לִבּוֹ.” How can the dwelling place of the שכינה, the spiritual heart of the world, depend on donations rather than mandatory participation? Join the shiur as we uncover, through the teachings of Chazal, the Zohar, and the Arizal, how the Mishkan was not merely a structure but a revelation of the bond between Kudsha Brich Hu, the Torah, and Yisrael—חד הוא.
