Jewish Students Under Siege: Fighting Campus Antisemitism

Today, Hurwitz says, Israel is being held in the same category as the Nazis and KKK on many college campuses. Through her work with Hillel, she’s aimed to combat this and meet with countless college students over her nearly two-year speaking tour. Though many young Jewish students have witnessed the unthinkable - Jewish resilience continues to cross generational lines and most remain strong. Many young students are speaking out and more importantly - many universities are cracking down on the unhinged antisemitism we’ve witnessed over the past two years. Still, the problem isn’t solved and for Jewish parents getting ready to send their kids off to a college or university, there are two things to consider. First, know your kid. Some kids can weather the storm and develop thick skin while others simply can’t at the time. Research the level of anti-Jewish rhetoric at each particular college and compare that to the overall Jewish presence. If there’s a strong Hillel, Chabad or active Jewish student union, it’s worth considering.
