Something extraordinary happened this morning in Ramat Beit Shemesh. In a packed tent, Jews sang and danced through Hallel with lulavim and etrogim as Shmulik Sukkot led an unforgettable morning of music, tefillah and Simchat Yom Tov. For me, this video is especially personal. I know most of the people you see here personally. These are my friends, my community, the people I daven with, celebrate with and identify with. In a very real way, this video is me bringing you into my private life and showing you the Israel that I actually live in every day. And there is something else that makes this scene extraordinary: the people filling this shul are Jews who made aliyah. They left their lives abroad, came home to Eretz Yisrael, built families and communities here, and now they are standing together singing Hallel in the Jewish homeland. To me, this is what the return of the Jewish people looks like in real life. Jews coming home, building communities, raising their children here, singing, dancing and praising Hashem together.
