The purpose of a eulogy is, firstly, to honor the deceased and to express the sense of loss after his passing—to show that we are saddened that he left us and that we truly care about him. The second purpose is that, through the eulogies, we can learn from the person and from his actions. This becomes a great merit for his soul, because through him, people are inspired to follow suit and achieve more. During the holidays, we push off eulogies so as not to dampen the happiness of the holiday, and we deliver them afterward for the purposes we have explained. Join us every Tuesday night at 8:30PM, as Oorah's founder, Rabbi Chaim Mintz, delivers a weekly Torah class. Watch it at: https://www.oorah.org/ask-the-rabbi "Ask the Rabbi" begins at 9PM.
