It is G-d's desire that we help and assist those who are studying Torah and dedicating their lives to His service, to the best of our ability. For He abundantly increases blessing upon the world in the merit of those who dedicate their lives to His service—whether it be the Kohanim and Levites who served in the Temple, or the rabbis and Torah teachers of today. This applies to such an extent that, while it is generally unacceptable to test G-d and serve Him expecting some form of worldly compensation, charity is the one exception to this rule. As the prophet tells us, G-d says, “Test Me”—give charity, and you will prosper as a result. Indeed, there have been many accounts of people who gave charity faithfully and merited prosperity in extraordinary ways.
