The Gemara teaches through the mashal of someone walking at night, afraid of thorns, pits, wild animals, and bandits, not knowing where to go. This isn't just any story, it's the Torah of the wandering soul, showing us how to fix our four fundamental character traits that correspond to the four elements. We explore how seeing the face of a tzaddik is like finding a torch in the darkness, how it connects us back to our source and pulls us out of depression and taivah. The Rebbe explains this beautiful idea that the tzaddik is like a mother nursing the generation with the milk of Torah, and just like a baby drops everything and runs to mama when she appears, so too when we see the tzaddik, all our narishkeit melts away.
