Britain's premier Torah city officially crowned its new spiritual leader Thursday afternoon in a ceremony that marks the end of a five-year search for rabbinic leadership. Rabbi Yisroel Mantel was formally installed as Gateshead's Rav HaIr in a historic gathering attended by the city's roshei yeshiva, rabbanim, dayyanim, and thousands of community members. The installation ceremony caps an extraordinary transition that saw Rabbi Mantel leave his prestigious position as Rav of Kehillas Adas Yeshurun in Washington Heights, New York, to assume leadership of one of Europe's most distinguished Torah communities.
