Moshe insists the Jews Keep Hashem’s Mitzvos. After all ‘What Does Hashem ask of you but to fear Him, go in His ways and Serve Him with all your heart and all your Soul… For your own good. Behold, to Hashem belongs the heavens and the heavens of heavens the earth and everything in it. But, He delights only in your fathers to love them…’ Rashi insists, that the fulfillment of the Mitzvot is not for naught but for your good that you should receive a reward. Baal Haturim writes that the Forefathers are also excluded (from Hashem’s love) for we find judgement directed against them as well. The Shiur explores the function of the Forefathers in facilitating the Jews descent to Egypt. As true fathers of the Jewish people they had unbound optimism about their descendants abilities to endure every challenge of Jewish history and emerge triumphant.
