No Fear In The Heart of a Jew | Parsha Shiur Vaeschanan 5786

Hashem instructed Moshe Rabbeinu: וצו את יהושע וחזקהו ואמצהו Rashi writes that the purpose of this was to assuage any fears that Yehoshua would have that he would not end up going into EY. ‘Just as my teacher was punished so I am destined to be punished…’ The Baal Haturim points out that the word וחזקהו appears only in one more place in all if Tanach. It is in Shmuel Bais and it is at the end if the story of Dovid and Bat Sheva. Dovid sends a message to Iyov his chief of staff and the head of his army. Baal Haturim points out that Yehoshua was also the head of the Jewish army. Moshe himself appointed Yehoshua to this position and sis so in order to strengthen him. This Shiur explores the true nature of Yehoshua’s concerns that he would be pinished ‘just like his teacher.’ We also explore some of the difficult elements in the relationship between Dovid and Yoav. Why this in particular was relevant to Yehoshua’s concern.
