Insights into the Weekly Haftorah - Pinchas

There are three special readings between the fast day of the 17th of Tamuz and the fast day of the 9th day of Av. In this week's Haftarah God informs Jeremiah that he has been chosen from the womb to be God's spokesperson. Jeremiah claims that he is not able to speak but God assures him that he will be with him and defend him throughout his life. God then reveals how calamity will occur if the people do not change their ways. Despite the harsh warning, God concludes this message with words of love and support for the Jewish people.
