In this class we learned of the tragic story of how King David's first born son, Amnon, rapes his half sister Tamar whose brother is Avshalom. This incident led to further tragic events as eventually Avshalom has Amnon killed and then goes into 3 years of exile from Jerusalem and King David. Eventually there is a reconciliation but the seeds were planted for Avshalom to rebel against his father as David had done nothing to discipline or punish Amnon. As part of the class we discuss how rape has been treated throughout history and in contemporary times.
