Today it is thriving, rivaling ancient Temple times, housing more than one million inhabitants. But Jerusalem today, under the sovereignty of the reborn nation of Israel, is facing perhaps its greatest challenge ever, a challenge to civilization at large: the violent claims of Islam, which seeks to extinguish the light of Jerusalem forever.
