G-d strikes the complaining Israelites with a plague of venomous snakes and then provides a cure, instructing Moshe to create a copper serpent, place it on a staff, and raise it up for the people to gaze at and thereby become cured. What was the secret to its success? Was it yet another miracle provided gratis by G-d? Or was the cure precipitated by the gazers' reawakened belief in HaShem?
