Returning the Temple to HaShem!

In parashat Ki Teitzei we are told, "You shall not see your brother's ox or sheep straying, and ignore them. Rather, you shall surely return them to your brother." (Deuteronomy 22:1) What is our responsibility if the owner has given up hope of finding his lost object?
