Shalom Aleichem Chevra, so great to have you here with us! What does it really mean to stand before Hashem on Rosh Hashanah — and are you actually ready? In this shiur we dive into the opening of Parshas Nitzavim, where it says 'All of you are standing today.' The Chevra, Rashi and Chazal tell us that 'today' is a direct reference to Rosh Hashanah — and standing means you are alert, at attention, ready. We go through the whole list in the parsha, from the heads of tribes to the wood choppers and water carriers, and we talk about why every single Yid — no matter where they are — is included in this moment before Hashem. Nobody gets left behind. We also spend serious time on the Bris — the covenant that Hashem seals with us in this parsha. We unpack what a bris actually means: both sides give something, and something bigger than the sum of the parts gets created. Hashem says you make Me your God exclusively, and in return He puts the full weight of His office behind you. We connect this to Yosef HaTzaddik, who guarded the bris with Potifar's wife and immediately became second in command with all of the world's resources at his disposal. Guarding the bris is not just a spiritual concept — it has real, direct consequences for parnosa, for joy, for everything. We also get into the deep idea behind the number eight — why the bris milah happens on the eighth day, above the seven of this world, above our normal consciousness. The Maharal's teaching on seven versus eight opens up something beautiful about Shabbos, about this world, and about what we are reaching for heading into Rosh Hashanah. We close with a call to connect deeply to the words of Nitzavim and a look ahead at Deuteronomy 30, which we will be learning together. Come ready, Chevra — this is the final push before the new year.
