All Nations of The World Will Stream back to the Holy City of Jerusalem

Shalom Aleichem Chevra, welcome back! What happens when the nations of the world stop seeing Jerusalem as a place to avoid — and start streaming back to build it up with their own hands? In this shiur we dive deep into Isaiah 60, picking up right where we left off on the incredible prophecy about all the wealth of the world returning to Jerusalem. We work through verses 14 through 20, and the picture that emerges is stunning — the very nations and descendants of those who oppressed the Jewish people will come back not with jealousy, not looking for an alliance, but with a genuine, heartfelt desire to build up the city of Hashem. The Malbim helps us understand why this is so different from the normal way tribute works between nations, and it completely changes how we read these verses. We also look at the powerful idea that all the wealth that was pillaged and taxed away from the Jewish people — through the Greek period and beyond — Hashem will consider as if it was given as tzedaka by the very Jews it was taken from. That's one of the most moving ideas in the whole parasha. And we see this playing out in real time, with people from places like Singapore waking up and realizing that chasing money without a connection to Torah leaves you empty, and wanting to redirect everything toward building up Jerusalem. From there we move into the final verses of Isaiah 60, where the prophet returns to the theme of light from verse 1 — 'Arise, shine, for your light has arrived.' We explore what it means that the sun and moon will no longer be the source of light, with the Malbim explaining that the Jewish nation itself will become the moon reflecting the supernal light of Hashem. The days of mourning for Am Yisrael will finally, once and for all, come to an end. We close with the last pasuk of Isaiah 60 — the one engraved on a plaque downstairs for Sammy Farcus — about the smallest and youngest growing into a mighty nation. The Gemara brings it home: Hashem has an appointed time for the Mashiach, but if we step into our role as ambassadors of His light through the 613 mitzvos, He will speed it up. The tribulations don't have to happen the hard way. Get involved, Chevra. That's the call.
