Intergalactic Space Travel to get God’s Torah

Shalom Aleichem Chevra, welcome home! What if the most precious thing in the universe was already inside you this whole time — and you just forgot? In this shiur, we dig into one of the most mysterious verses in all of Torah, right from Parshas Nitzavim: 'This mitzvah that I command you today is not hidden from you and it is not far away.' The Torah doesn't even tell us which mitzvah it's talking about. So we sit with that mystery for a while and really let it build. Rashi drops something stunning — the verse tells us it's not up in the heavens, not across the sea. But here's the thing: the fact that the Torah even needs to say that tells us something enormous about how precious this mitzvah is. If it WAS up in the heavens, you'd have to go get it. And the Torah is saying — you'd have to go. That's the kind of thing worth crossing the galaxy for. We go through four explanations of what this mystery mitzvah actually is. Rashi says it's Torah learning itself — the mitzvah that makes all other mitzvos possible. The Rambam says it's teshuvah. The Ramban connects it to emunah, to believing in yourself and your own soul. And underneath all of it runs the teaching from the Gemara about the fetus in the womb: before we're born, a malach teaches us the entire Torah, and then we forget. So when we learn Torah, we're not really learning something foreign — we're remembering. The Torah is already encoded in our spiritual DNA. It's karov, it's close, because it never left. This is all the deepest preparation for Rosh Hashana. Rosh Hashana is Yom HaZikaron — the day of remembering — and what we're really asking Hashem is to see us the way we looked before our neshama ever came down into this world, pure and connected. That's the real cheshbon, the real accounting. And that's also the depth of teshuvah me'ahavah — returning out of love means going so far back into yourself that even the stumbles along the way become part of the journey home.
