The Promise of Jewish Return to the Land of Israel

In this shiur we dive deep into Deuteronomy 30, one of the most moving sections in the entire Torah, and unpack the incredible promise of the Jewish return to the Land of Israel. We look at how the 42 stops of the Jewish nation in the desert mirror the 42 journeys every single Jew goes through in his own life — from Pico-Robertson to Papua New Guinea — all of them leading somewhere, all of them preparing us for the final destination. We go through the verses of Deuteronomy 30 together line by line — the promise that the Jewish people will be scattered to the four corners of the globe, that they will do teshuva, that they will hear the voice of Hashem, and that God Himself will gather them in from wherever they are. We even get into the wild halacha question of what direction you daven if you're living on Mars, and what the Rambam says about a person who simply doesn't know which way Jerusalem is — as long as your heart is facing that direction, you're good. We also talk about what it means that Hashem will "circumcise your heart" — removing the spiritual blockage and exile mentality that makes us too comfortable in the diaspora.
