Intergalactic Space Travel to get God’s Torah!

Shalom Aleichem Chevra, welcome home! What if the most precious thing in the universe was already inside you — closer than your own heartbeat? In this shiur we dive deep into one of the most mysterious verses in all of Parshas Nitzavim: 'This mitzvah that I command you today is not hidden and it is not far away.' The Torah never names the mitzvah. Rashi tells us it is not in the heavens — but here's the wild part: if it WAS up there in intergalactic space, you would have had to go get it. That's how precious it is. We spend time really sitting with what that means — the preciousness of Torah, of teshuva, of your own neshamah — and how close all of it actually is to each one of us. We work through four incredible explanations of what this mystery mitzvah really is. Rashi says it's Torah itself — and it's close because Hashem gave us both the written Torah and the oral transmission together. The Rambam says the mitzvah is teshuva, and teshuva simply means coming home to your soul. The Baal HaTanya builds his entire Sefer Tanya on this very verse, showing us that the neshamah inside us is so close that we can defeat the yetzer hara not just in action and speech, but deep inside the heart itself. We also explore the Gemara's teaching about the fetus learning Torah from an angel in the womb with a candle of light over its head — and then forgetting it at birth. That imprint is still encoded in your spiritual DNA. When you learn Torah it feels familiar because it already lives inside you. That's why saying words of Torah is the most organic thing a Jew can do. And as we head into Rosh Hashanah, the Day of Remembrance, we talk about the deepest kind of teshuva — returning not just to who you were last year, but to what your neshamah looked like before it ever came down into this world. That's the chuva of love, and that's what can turn the past into something beautiful.
