What if the entire roadmap for where history is heading — for Israel and for the nations — was written down in detail thousands of years ago, and anyone can just open it up and read it? In this shiur we dive deep into Haazinu, one of the most prophetically loaded passages in the entire Torah. We work through verses four through seven of Moshe's great song, unpacking what it means that Hashem is a "rock" — not just powerful, but perfectly measured in every act of justice. Nothing gets lost in God's accounting. The righteous get their full reward, and even the person who did one good deed in a lifetime of wrongdoing gets paid back for it — just not necessarily in the world to come. We talk about what that means for how we understand reward, punishment, and why good things sometimes happen to people who don't seem to deserve them. We also get into the generations that went off the rails — the generation of Enosh who brought idol worship into the world, the generation of the Flood and the violence and theft that sealed their fate — and why Moshe tells us to remember those times. It's not nostalgia. It's a warning. Rashi makes clear that history repeats when people stop learning from it, and the prophets — Isaiah, Zechariah, Yehoshua — are called our "fathers" precisely because they saw these patterns and laid them out for us to follow. We also spend real time on the GPS analogy that captures something essential: Hashem set a destination — Mashiach — and the world is always being recalibrated back toward it no matter how many wrong turns get made. The Rambam's teaching on the middle path comes in here too, and we talk honestly about what it looks like to choose a community, raise kids, and stay grounded when the world around us is pulling in crooked directions.
