Unlike animals, humans yearn for meaning. Principle of Growth In business, relationships, and faith: if you’re not growing, you’re declining. Religion works the same—connection with God requires constant investment. Distance Creates Closeness Breaks in life (vacations, rest) are meant to renew and deepen growth. Just as marital separation creates longing, spiritual distance fosters greater connection. The Power of Longing Walking toward prayer can be spiritually greater than being “there.” Struggle, yearning, and hiddenness sharpen our relationship with God. Hiddenness = Accessibility Paradox: God is most accessible in this world of darkness and hiddenness. Even angels cannot reach the level of closeness a human can achieve here. Darkness as Light Times of exile and Tisha B’Av: hidden closeness with Hashem. The deepest darkness hides the brightest spiritual light. The Ultimate Lesson This world uniquely offers the chance to build a relationship with God. Life’s challenges are opportunities for closeness, not distance.
