Is the Holy Temple an ancient relic of a bygone era — or is it the missing center of our world? In this week's portion of Parashat Terumah, the Torah introduces the Divine commandment to build a Sanctuary: “And they shall make for Me a Sanctuary, and I will dwell among them” (Ex. 25:8). But what does this really mean? Does the Creator of heaven and earth need a house? And what relevance could the Temple possibly have in the modern world?
