The two concluding portions of the Book of Leviticus, Behar and Bechukotei, are read together this year. They open before us the Torah's path for man, to go from a need to be in control, to learn how to trust in God. Behar teaches the sacred art of release; Bechukotei then shows what happens when a person, or a society, refuses to let go. Together they offer a sobering but deeply hopeful message: surrender what was never truly yours, so that you can receive what can never be taken away.
