Jewish comedian Yohay Sponder thought he was heading to Amsterdam for two packed comedy shows. Then, just days before he was supposed to perform, Boom Chicago pulled the shows after receiving threats. Instead of backing down, Yohay fought back. He sued the venue, won a settlement, donated the money to kibbutzim in southern Israel, and turned the entire cancellation into exactly the kind of attention his boycotters were trying to stop. As Yohay tells Jonah Platt, attempts to cancel him for being Israeli have often had the opposite effect, bringing more press, more community support, and even bigger audiences.
