“I cannot experience myself in the relationship because all I feel is them.” During a special Thursday Night Call-In Show featuring Jeff Garlin, a caller describes what it is like to be a sensitive soul. In silence and solitude, she feels close to God. Around other people, she says, “I don’t hear His voice. I hear their internal state. I feel it.” Rabbi Shais Taub tells her that this sensitivity is a beautiful gift, but it is a gift she has to learn how to use. For her, silence is not empty. It is where she can experience reality without being overwhelmed by everyone else’s pain and emotional noise. But Rabbi Taub suggests that her challenge may be to discover how God is communicating with her through relationships.
